QUOTE (Avenger @ Dec 16 2005, 07:04 AM)
Looking at the table of damage types I'm a bit confused as to where AP rounds fit in.  I would think they were classed as Hard rather than Soft, but given they both fall under the class of Projectile, a flatster with high resistance to projectiles should resist them both equally? Shouldn't they?

The alternative is that AP rounds get classified as mechanical.

AP rounds are "Hard". Both "Soft" and "Hard" are in the broader group "Projectiles". Each contributes 50% of 'Projectiles" composite resistance. Example: an enemy's armor has 0.6 value for "Soft" and 0.9 for "Hard". It's "Projectiles" resistance (what your L3 Scout sees in the game) is 25% (0.6+0.9=1.5 => 1.5/2=0.75 => 1-0.75=0.25).

"Sonic" + "Blade" + "Explosive" = "Mechanical". "Plasma" + "Burn" = "Burn". "Laser" + "Plasma" + "Warp" + "EMP" = "Energy". Note that "Plasma" is part of two different resistance "classes" ("Burn" and "Energy"). Internally, the game uses the actual damage type, not the general class, so there's no conflict with Plasma being part of two groups.

Avenger, might I suggest you paraphrase what I just explained and stick it into your Guide?

I am mildly curious where the in-game help is located and whether it is moddable.

It's in pack.txt, and I've been tweaking it in my mod for weeks.

Yep - Had a busy couple of weeks, so I'm getting back to adding bits to the guide now.

I've linked this thread to the top of my guide too, to make it easier to find.

I presume for categories like Mechanical, where there are 3 damage types (Sonic, Blade, Explosive) that each counts equally, or 33% of the overall resistance the scout skill sees.

The pen is mightier than the sword, if it is sharpened to a fine point, dipped in deadly poison and thrown from 10 feet away. But really, you're better off with a sword.
