About that, do you know how to change the skin for an item without changing the original? For example changing the laser sniper skin for the laser MG item without changing the skin for the rifle at the same time. So far I have only done straight replacements for the original skins. Also, somebody should really re-skin the wargots... I remember thinking how ugly they looked in their orange armour the first time I saw them Any suggestions for a colour-scheme? -------------------- Get my skins at my homepage or Strategycore

To get the game to use a new .dds name you must edit the model file (found in the "\tactical\models\" tree), which is something I don't know how to do. However, Shai_Hulud is an expert at that. Perhaps you can collaborate with him, and then once you know how to do it, you can post instructions so that I (and others) can do it. Hmmm... reskinning the Reticulans so they look like they're wearing Reticulan armor would be nice.
I mean, have they suddenly decided to frolic free and naked through the trees or something? |

Blood red, with black trim. Perhaps some yellow trim also. I had a partial success with skin-replacement: I checked which file used "cyborg_medium.dds" (several actually, but only one was the one I wanted) and copied "cyborg_body_medium.txt" (which is the model, I think) from the original folder to my mod folder. I changed the skin name to "cyborg_mediu2.dds" with a hex-editor (google it, they are everywhere) and renamed my own skin to that. The result was that the cyborgs used my skin for the medium body and the original skin for everything else. (click) ![]() Normally the strength arms/legs use the same texture as the medium body but as you can see they aren't anymore. It's odd that the little torso-icon to the upper-left still uses the original skin, I assume that it's a separate model that also has to be changed. I'm also assuming that it's relatively simple to change models for items but you are probably more qualified to answer that. Because the Grays couldn't survive without it on our planet for extended periods or something? |

But even if that's true, consider that the Rets are masters of genetic engineering and had years to adapt to Earth (prior to the Biomass-related event that led to their current state). -------------------- |

The Reticulans have become stupid, they haven't had their equipment spontaneously disintegrate.
I don't think the Reticulans are all about genetically engineering themselves, they seem to be more about genetically engineering other things to do stuff for them. And besides, alien armor just looked way cool. |

I'm working on a pack for the Wargots and I've got a beta preview here: (click)
![]() The light armour is basically done as far as detailing goes, it's a pretty simple skin originally, but the heavy armour needs some work around the head especially. I also haven't started work on the "priest", mech and scout skins. They could probably use matching weapon skins too. Feedback on the colours is welcome. It's not immediately apparent in the images but the wargot armour is highly reflective and also has a special image with the reflection in their folder I changed the colours on it since it made the black armour look brown but it's something to experiment with, I imagine you could get some interesting effects by making it for example bright red. Another thing they have are transparent skins; the "hair" on the unhelmeted soldiers is actually a sheet with some parts visible and some parts transparent. I made the mistake of using non-transparent tga files the first time which made the space between the hairs white Transparent skins have potential for other stuff as well, since you can make parts "disappear", and if you can make skins semi-transparent it opens up even more possibilities. I'll have to research that a little -------------------- Get my skins at my homepage or Strategycore

Rather than just doing this for items, could you do this for enemies? Say, the morelmen look fine, but should they all really look alike? I'd be pretty happy if there were two or three skins for morelmen, and a green flatster thrown into the mix. |
