At this LINK is a small coloring mod for the robots. I am sure others can do better and will do so eventually, but I just could not stand the bright yellow. Here is the readme. Comments welcome.

Tampa_Gamer Robots Color Mod v1.00
UFO: Afterlight (1.4 N. American version)
March 11, 2007

===========================================================
INTRODUCTION
===========================================================

I could not stand the bright colored yellow and cyan martian robots, so I decided to turn the base colors to mostly dark grey/metalic instead of yellow.

===========================================================
KNOWN BUGS/TECHNICAL
===========================================================

None that I know of.

===========================================================
INSTALLATION/REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS
===========================================================

To install, unzip the file "mod_TG_robotcolors.vfs" into your main UFO:AL game directory (i.e. where the .exe file is found). To remove, simply delete the file.

===========================================================
MOD CONFLICT ANALYSIS
===========================================================

This mod contains replacement textures in the following files:
\units\textures\robots\martian_rob_drones_diff.dds
\units\textures\robots\martian_rob_mech_diff.dds
\units\textures\robots\martian_rob_spider_diff.dds

This mod is compatible with any save game (i.e. it should not effect them since the textures are loaded from each file every time the game is started).

===========================================================
FUTURE EXPANSION OF MOD
===========================================================

This was done as an experiment for me. Other far more experienced graphics experts will probably release something far better soon.

===========================================================
VERSION HISTORY
===========================================================

v1.00 (first public release)
+ replaced 3 textures for martian robots

===========================================================
NOTES/COPYRIGHT ISSUES
===========================================================

(1) As a common modding courtesy, I would ask that this mod not be posted or used in part or in whole without first contacting me via the e-mail below.

(2) As all of my mods are a continual work-in-process, please forward all tweaks, suggestions and bugs found to me at xxctraberxx@ngn-xxtampa.xxcom (remove ######'s for actual e-mail).

Have Fun!

Sure, I should have done that to begin with. I will take care of it when I get home from work tonight.

Yes, wolfborg it was leftover from my readme.txt on my UFO:AS sound mod. I uploaded a sound mod for UFO:AL, but am awaiting clearance at strategycore.

Below is a screenshot of the robot crawling drones and mech. I will post other screens as I encounter more robots.

I really like the grey legs, but cyan for the crawler body is a color that I find vaguely nauseating. The cyan does look much better on the mech than it does on the crawlers. On the mech the cyan is a highlight rather than a main color.

OTOH, these are alien machines and as such can have whatever strange colors they want, which don't have to conform to any human aesthetic sense. wink.gif

Overall I like the reskin and intend to use it in my own game.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the crawlers. When I first saw them, it reminded me of one of the upgrade chasis for an old rts game called Warzone 2100. I may play around with the colors a bit more later this week, but right now I am concentrating on the next version of my sound mod.

Personally i'd like to see more variation on the surfaces (different shades of colors). They seem somehow so .. two dimensional.

The crawlers legs look nice, the cyan is maybe a bit too bright for my taste, but overall its clearly better than the original ones were.
