Hello, I am new here. rolleyes.gif

I bought UFO Afterlight and like it very much and recommend everyone to buy it.

I wanted to buy Aftershock but was hesitant because I was afraid of StarForce infecting my PC.

Now with the Patch 1.3 it seems to be removed.

My question is:
Can I buy Aftershock, install it without starting the .EXE (this is where SecuROM for example infects your PC) and patch Aftershock with patch 1.3. When I start it then, will my PC be clean of StarForce that way and I can play my game?

Please when answering, be 100% sure about it, I don't want to buy it and then see StarForce on my PC.
Thank you! smile.gif

Yes, SF doesn't install untill you run the exe that requires it, the patch removes this requirement.

Thank you shadowkeeper!
That would be exactly like SecuROM acted after the install of Afterlight and the patch v1.7, it went without problems and I love the game. biggrin.gif

And you are 100% sure that's the same with StarForce? Sorry, but I'm really afraid of StarForce installing on my computer. unsure.gif
I'd like to order Aftershock as soon as possible, because I just started Afterlight and would like to play Aftershock first.

That's generally the case. It's possible to configure the game installation to do this without running the game, but it's rarely used. I believe UFO:AS is one of those that DOESN'T, just make sure to NOT run the game after installation until you patch up.

Reinstalled the UFO: Aftershock.
Upplied patch 1.2 with all previous updates in it.
Upplied patch 1.3.
Started the game - it crashes. Reinstalled once again, this time tried to follow the default folder - the same result.

Removed any link to UFO: AS from windows registry, reinstalled and once again - nothing.

Maybe this Catalyst problem (if you have an ATI card)?

Thanks. It seems to work now.

P.S.: i don`t like patches that interfere with graphic cards in such a way. Before 1.3 everything was working perfect...

No: 1.3 does nothing with your graphic driver nor ingame graphics.

I think you installed the last Catalyst just before the 1.3 AS patch, or just after 1.3 without having tested this last Catalyst. ATI is the bad boy.
i. e.: If, after having installed Catalyst, you had tested your 1.2 version of Aftershock, it should have crashed like the 1.3

I just reinstalled my AS, with 1.3, to be sure: It works as possibly good as usual.
